Trends That Matter for Specialty Pharmacy

In our weekly Trends that Matter series, we provide engaging infographics from healthcare influencers to highlight general trends affecting the pharmaceutical industry. This week's featured topic is specialty pharmacy. Specialty treatments include drugs for cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple sclerosis.

In a recent survey of health care companiesWillis Towers Watson revealed 87% of employers rated high pharmacy spend and high-cost specialty drugs as their main healthcare concerns for upcoming years. 

To combat high specialty costs, United Health Group recommends the healthcare industry works towards "new payment models, better information on treatments and outcomes, development of patient registries, clinical pathways, and new forms of collaboration between patients and providers."
